Archant’s North Devon Gazette has put to bed another successful year of community campaigning by successfully signing off two appeals.
Just before Christmas, the team delivered more than 300kg of Christmas goodies to the foodbank in Barnstaple – donations from staff and scores of generous readers who responded to the paper’s Give a Gift appeal.
Meanwhile, more than 3,000 local people took part in the paper’s Light Up a Life appeal, raising upwards of £31,000 for North Devon Hospice and Children’s Hospice South West in just six weeks.
Many Gazette readers donated via post, telephone or online, and many hundreds also attended the 22 special Light Up a Life services across North Devon, where they lit a candle in memory of friends and family members.
Gazette editor Andy Keeble said this year’s appeal had been one of the most successful in its 18-year history with the newspaper.
“We are so privileged to be able to help spread the word about such a fantastic appeal for two local charities that are so dear to North Devon, he said. “And true to form, our generous readers have thrown their support at the appeal once more.”
