Five Archant South West newspapers have joined forces to launch the East Devon Day Hospice Appeal.
The Exmouth Journal, the Midweek Herald, Exmouth Herald, Sidmouth Herald and Cranbrook Herald will be highlighting the vital work of Hospiscare and the charity’s new day hospice, which will be built in Honiton.
The newspapers will be helping Hospiscare raise £250,000 to complete and run the centre, which is due to open this summer.
The titles are inviting people to get involved by organising or supporting events across East Devon, volunteering or simply making a donation.
The new day hospice, which will be a haven of care for thousands of people across East Devon, will provide a patients’ lounge, assisted bathroom, therapy room, quiet room and kitchen, as well as a beautiful sensory garden.
Hospiscare has received a grant of £510,000 from NHS England as well as generous pledges from its sister charities, Budleigh, Exmouth and Sidmouth Hospiscare, to bring the plans for the new day hospice to fruition.
Archant South West’s newspaper group editor for Devon, Phil Griffin, said: “We are happy to lend our support to such a worthy cause. With more than 100,000 readers each week, we are sure we can help Hospiscare reach its target.”
