At the start of the year, Archant launched a campaign, working with Age UK, to make our readers and employees more dementia aware. This initiative is in support of Age UK Norwich who are drawing up plans to make Norwich ‘dementia-friendly’ by March 2018.
As the official media partners of the campaign, Archant pledged to help Norwich become a ‘dementia-friendly’ community by taking important steps to raise awareness.
One of the pledges was to train 50 members of staff as ‘Dementia Friends’ within 12 months - to ensure they can spread understanding of the condition.
This week the first group of Archant employees were trained by Age UK and Archant now has 13 'Dementia Friends’ who can help and support those affected by dementia in the local area.
Marie Lucas who ran the event said "I'm very overwhelmed by your staff’s enthusiasm and response to the training. It's a pleasure to do it."
On becoming a dementia friend Archant Digital Administrator, Chantelle Rankin said "I’m happy to be a dementia friend and use what I have learnt to be able to understand better and support people with dementia in their everyday life."
The next session is planned for April with further sessions in July and September.
