Archant Print has been highly commended as Newspaper Printer of the Year in the Print Week Awards, presented on October 21 at the Grosvenor House in London.
The Archant Print division was named as runner-up for its contract printing of Bauer Media weekly trade titles, MCN (MotorCycleNews), Angling Times and Classic Car Weekly.
They were pipped to the title by last year’s winner Trinity Mirror (Watford) which prints the Daily Mirror, the Racing Post and “i”.
Judges said of the Archant print entry: “Deadlines, as with most newspapers, are tight, which makes good quality printing hard to achieve. But Archant Print delivered for Angling Times, Classic Car Weekly and MCN to win praise for impressive control of crossovers and a very consistent entry throughout.”
The category was open to those demonstrating outstanding colour printing on newsprint-based products, taking into account the pressures of daily or weekly production.
Director of Archant Print’s Thorpe Print Centre, Clive Want, said: “Although we are obviously disappointed not to have won in this category, I am delighted for the Thorpe team that we have been highly commended for the work we have been producing this year. It’s always going to be difficult for regional newspaper printers when you are up against large nationals but this once again proves we are up there with the best.”
