We are looking for a Senior or Trainee Reporter for the East Anglian Daily Times, based at our Framlingham office, to help the team cover our east Suffolk patches.

The East Anglian Daily Times is respected for its balanced perspective and renowned for exacting writing and sharp photography, delivering local, national and international news and sport to tens of thousands of readers across Suffolk and north Essex.

Through our newspaper, website, e-edition and social media channels, we offer unrivalled coverage of local events and also provide the area's leading marketplaces for property, jobs, and motors.

This is a great opportunity for reporters who:

  • Are qualified to at least NCTJ/NQJ-accredited senior journalist or equivalent
  • Have at least two years’ recent reporting experience on a daily or weekly newspaper (for a senior role)
  • Have excellent news judgement
  • Are full of ideas for print and digital platforms
  • Have a good knowledge of west or east Suffolk
  • Are able to produce sparkling copy for our newspapers and websites

Applicants for our trainee roles will have their NCTJ preliminary qualifications, including 100wpm shorthand, and will be hungry to make a name for themselves and push on to achieve full senior status.

Good organisation and communication skills are vital, as is the ability to develop an extensive network of contacts and work under pressure. The roles will involve spending a lot of the time on the patch, and will also involve working weekends and evenings on a rota basis.

Your role will involve covering part of the west or east Suffolk patch, working on and off-diary, attending a variety of news events including court and council meetings, and keeping abreast of news sources. You will need to maintain local contacts, to follow up previous stories, making and working on Freedom of Information requests. You will be providing copy for our print and digital platforms, and be expected to promote our work on social media.
