I genuinely like Archant as a company and as an employee I think we are a great company to work for. All companies rely on making fantastic use of the resources they have, however not many appreciate that people are the most important element. Archant do in that respect and I see that evidenced every day. I also work hard to ensure that those people who work for me feel that also.
Meeting and working with a very diverse group of people. One week fairly recently I had dinner with the chairman, the next day I was presenting some of our amazing magazine portfolio to an agency in West London and a few days later I was having coffee with the Leader of a very large London council discussing some of the huge challenges facing local government. I would call that an interesting week for sure.
The challenges are numerous; however if I was to try and summarise I would say that as a business we need to be totally focussed on the customer and their needs to ensure long term partnerships. This means challenging many of the traditional behaviours within the business. If we can change the way we think about things we can then change what we do to achieve better results ultimately. When we succeed in doing this and can clearly see the dial move that’s also a great motivator for me personally.
I like to be able to influence things, whether that’s improving a customer’s response and helping them to be more successful or working with our teams to sell more, this industry for me ticks all of the boxes.
I’m an identical twin, in fact I’m thinking for the next board meeting I might get my brother to cover for me!
