Change of editors for Archant daily newspaper titles

Community media publisher Archant has announced changes to its senior editorial teams in Norfolk and Suffolk.

Eastern Daily Press editor Peter Waters has decided to leave Archant and Nigel Pickover, editor of the Ipswich Star for the past 16 years has been appointed editor-in-chief at Archant Norfolk and will edit the Eastern Daily Press and Evening News and oversee the Norfolk weeklies.

Tim Williams, currently editor of the Norwich Evening News, is also to take up a new post as development editor - leading new product development and providing support across Anglia.

In Suffolk, Terry Hunt, editor of the East Anglian Daily Times for the past 17 years, is appointed editor-in-chief and will also edit the Ipswich Star and oversee Suffolk’s weekly titles.

Nigel, Terry and Tim will report to Bob Crawley, recently appointed publishing director at Archant Anglia.

Johnny Hustler, Archant Anglia managing director, said: "The appointment of Nigel and Terry to these new roles is a very significant move for our business.

"Our world is evolving rapidly. Side by side with our newspapers, new digital platforms and social media give both us and our customers myriad new opportunities to interact together – and communities increasingly want their own voices heard. I believe that Nigel and Terry have the skills needed to lead us through this evolution.

"It is sad that Peter Waters is leaving us and we are thankful for the important work that he has done."

Prior to editing the EDP, Peter was deputy editor of the newspaper from September 2006 before being promoted to editor in July 2009. He also worked on the title from 1994 to 2001, being responsible for the editorial implementation of the EDP’s successful change from broadsheet, the launch of the first Saturday magazine in the regional press and the launch of the EDP Norfolk glossy magazine.

These changes take immediate effect and Nigel will be relocating to Norfolk at the earliest opportunity with his wife Ruth.
