Archant’s The New European has today announced two major editorial appointments to cover the upcoming General Election.
Michael White, one of the UK’s foremost political journalists and former Political Editor of The Guardian, joins as Election Editor.
And Iain Dale, the Leave-leaning LBC broadcaster and political pundit, joins as Election Diarist.
Both will contribute to each week’s newspaper, which is published nationwide every Friday.
Matt Kelly, Editor, The New European, said: “We’ve got a rather compelling line-up of talent commentating on these extraordinary political times; Bonnie Greer, Zoe Williams, Marion van Renterghem, Mitch Benn, A.C. Grayling and of course our new Editor-At-Large Alastair Campbell. Michael White and Iain Dale are two of the most insightful and witty political experts in the country. They will be delivering a bucketful of entertainment and knowledge every week.”
Michael White, Election Editor, said: “Both at home and around the world, these are extraordinary political times which make it impossible to sit back and put my feet up. First David Cameron delivers an unwanted Brexit, now Theresa May pops up with an unwanted general election. Can't stay out of this one."
Iain Dale, Election Diarist, The New European, said: “I’ve been hugely impressed by the impact The New European has made in the last ten months, even though I fundamentally disagree with its editorial line! I’ve been involved in eight elections over the last four decades either as a campaigner, agent, candidate or broadcaster, and each one has had its hilarious moments. Each week I’ll be writing an election diary which I hope will entertain and infuriate in equal measure. Above all remember, to quote our Dear Leader, Brexit Means Brexit, and there’s no going back. Ever. Got it?”
The New European also announced it is launching a special edition for the Republic of Ireland from tomorrow.
Commenting on the edition, Matt Kelly said: “We've had great interest from people in the Republic of Ireland about the paper, especially since it became clear that Brexit presents a fundamental challenge to the island's future. We have decided to produce a new edition here and look forward to welcoming many pro-EU readers to The New European community."
