Lancashire Life was crowned magazine of the year at the north of England's top media awards last night.
It sealed a great start to the year for the Archant title, which is the UK’s biggest-selling county magazine and has just recorded a year-on-year ABC-backed circulation increase. Announced in February, the ABC monthly figure of 20,199 for 2014 was achieved entirely through sold copies.
A record 750 guests from PR, publishing, advertising and marketing companies across the north gathered at The Point in Manchester's Old Trafford cricket ground for the annual Prolific North awards.
Lancashire Life editor Roger Borrell said: “We take a tremendous pride in producing a magazine that would not be out of place alongside national titles with much bigger resources. That's down to great flair, enthusiasm and teamwork across every department - they really give their all to make Lancashire Life a success.”
It was a bitter-sweet moment for Roger who was once again absent when his magazine won an award. “We won this two years ago when I was on holiday,” he said. “This time I'd been in a meeting in London and didn't think I'd get back in time. The key to success is clearly me keeping as far away as possible!”
The award was picked up by commercial manager, Lindsey Stephens, and Louise Taylor, the editor of Archant sister title Cheshire Life, one of the six other publications shortlisted for the award.
“I'm particularly pleased Lindsey was there because she, as much as anyone, has worked very hard to ensure quality editorial is at the heart of the magazine,” said Roger.
