FRANCE Magazine wins award for #ToParisWithLove campaign

Posted on

The team at FRANCE Magazine were last week presented with a Special Recognition Award for their ‘To Paris with love’ solidarity issue as part of Atout France’s ‘French Travel Media Awards’, held in London.

The team, who all have a deep affection for the city of Paris and its people, were left shocked and saddened by the tragedy which unfolded on 13 November 2015 and with that in mind, decided to use the January issue of their magazine to convey a message of solidarity, love and support to the people of Paris.

Within days of the attacks, an email was sent to the FRANCE Magazine contributors and readers asking them to share what Paris meant to them and inviting them to send words, pictures or illustrations explaining what they love about the city, any treasured memories of past trips and why they will never stop visiting.

The team received many truly moving tributes and aimed to publish as many as they could in their January issue, with the remainder being published on the website.

Carolyn Boyd, Editor wrote in her editor’s letter of that edition: “I was keen that we did it in such a way that mirrored the famous words of Martin Luther King Jr: ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.’ Therefore, asking our writers, photographers, illustrators and readers (at least those we could reach quickly) to share why they love the city seemed the most appropriate way to show support and solidarity.”

When introducing the award, Director of Atout France Gwenaelle Delos said that the special feature meant a great deal to them, at a time when Paris and French tourism needed it most.

The campaign was also recognised at this year’s Archant Awards – with the team getting through to the finals in the Best Content of the Year category.

Carolyn said: “I was so touched to receive this award on behalf of the team, our contributors and readers. In the aftermath of the attacks it, was important for us to stand up and reassure Parisian hoteliers, tour operators, restaurateurs and tourist attractions that we would never turn our backs on the city, and it was a privilege to have received such recognition for it.”
