Cotswold Life and Kent Life magazines have been nominated at the Professional Publishing Association Awards 2016.
Cotswold Life have been nominated in the Event of the Year (Business Media) category for their EMI Awards. Last year’s inaugural EMI Awards celebrated the thriving Cotswold engineering and manufacturing sector. Over 100 nominations were received from local businesses, and these were judged by experts from within the industry. Such was the success of the first event, which sold out within two weeks of being launched, that the awards have moved to the larger venue of Cheltenham Racecourse for 2016’s ceremony.
Tim Thurston, Commercial Director Archant Magazines, described the awards as, ‘A real triumph and certainly the best inaugural event that I have known.’
Kent Life have been nominated in the Cover of the Year category for their June 2015 edition - featuring cover artwork celebrating 800 years of the Magna Carta, which was sealed by King John at Runnymede in 1215. Kent has strong associations with the charter, with Canterbury being named as one of the five Charter Towns in England, and Faversham Town Council owns a copy of Magna Carta dated from 1300.
The etching featured on the cover is by local artist Graham Clark and captures the magazine’s light-hearted spirit of history being fun and life being local. Sales of the issue were up 18% year-on-year.
The shortlist has been narrowed down to 10 from the more than 50 covers that were entered, with other nominees including NME, The Economist and Harper’s Bazaar. The winner will be decided by a public vote and revealed at The PPA Awards 2016, held in London on 30th June.
Covers can be voted for once a day, every day until Friday 3rd June.
