In an exciting twist of events, this year the highly coveted PPA Chairman's Award has not been awarded to a brand or an individual, but to Archant itself.
The annual PPA (Professional Publishers Association) Awards are designed to celebrate and reward innovation in the media. They showcase the best products and brands the UK has to offer, commemorating genuine excellence amongst publishing teams across the country.
On 29th June, at an awards ceremony held at Grosvenor House in central London, it was announced that despite the award traditionally being presented to a specific brand or individual, the 2017 PPA Chairman’s Award would instead be received by the Archant company as a whole.
Archant was praised for its modern and agile approach to publishing and recognised for various ground-breaking achievements such as the recent publication of The New European, which sold over 40,000 copies of its launch issue after going from concept to newsstand in just nine days last year.
When presenting the award, PPA Chairman James Tye placed particular emphasis on the company’s many years of hard work and dedication to the industry, specifically acknowledging the century and a half Archant has dedicated to community publishing.
“[Archant] has been publishing magazines and newspapers for more than 150 years, and has been loyal and committed supporters of our industry and the PPA throughout that time.” He announced. “The company has really reaped the rewards of an audience-first strategy that combines digital transformation with real innovation in print.”
Chief Executive Jeff Henry said “One of our core values is pride. I am so proud of all the people in Archant past and present that have been recognised in such a prestigious manner”
This esteemed award joins a long line of huge successes for Archant this year; including the recent Paul Foot Award won by Archant Investigational Journalist, Emma Youle, and the recognition of several employees at the Regional Press Awards.
