Archant praised by keynote speaker at Local Media Works Awards evening

On Wednesday 19 October, the Local Media Works Awards evening was held at The Hospital Club, Covent Garden. Attended by some of the brightest and best talents in media planning from across the country, the event rewarded work in categories such as ‘Best Original Thinking’ and ‘Best Local Targeting.’

Local Media Works, chaired by Archant's Craig Nayman, helps advertisers and agencies to better understand the power and context of local media. The power of local media was championed on the night by key note speaker and Co-Founder of advertising agency Adam & Eve, James Murphy.

In a speech to more than 100 guests at the LMWA event, James said: “Local creative which understands and taps into these geographic differences is always going to be much more effective than creative which speaks solely to one national audience.”

He went on to praise Archant specifically saying: “I’m a Norfolk boy, grew up near Norwich so I grew up on a staple diet of the Eastern Daily Press, the Mercury and I’m very proud to see amazing businesses in local media like Archant based in my old home city.”

He added: “Take, for example, the EU referendum. In response to reader feedback on the result, Archant launched a brand new newspaper, The New European, from scratch. In just nine days. Now, whatever your views are on the referendum result, that’s an incredible example of innovation and execution in response to the market’s rapidly changing needs.”

The awards invited entrants to plan a campaign for a fictional brief from Virgin Atlantic. Winners on the night included; PHD for from virtual to reality, Mediacom Edinburgh for life doesn’t come to you and Starcom Mediavest for 10 intrepid adventures.

Archant's Craig Nayman said: “I’d like to say a huge congratulations to all or winners this evening and in particular to PHD who scooped the overall Best of the Best award. It has been immensely encouraging to see such imaginative and powerful use of local media across the entries.”
