Cambs Life magazine launched

October sees the launch of a brand new Archant Life magazine title bringing the county portfolio to 15 titles.

Cambridgeshire Life launches after receiving an extraordinary response to its preview August/September issue by residents and advertisers in the county, according to freelance editor Carole French, a former BBC journalist who has worked on the Newsround programme and the Radio Times.

In a matter of days the preview issue of Cambridgeshire Life had an impact on the county and it's people," said Carole. The reaction to the magazine was, frankly, astonishing and the comments extremely positive for both the editorial quality and its design."

Carole has edited a number of national leisure magazines, including Horse & Tack, and worked on the East Anglian Daily Times and Evening Star for five years. She still writes for the Suffolk titles and for Essex Life and has previously edited Hertfordshire Life.

Among the freelance contributors to Cambridgeshire Life is television chef Steven Saunders, managing director of Newmarket Racecourses Lisa Hancock, the Wildlife Trust's director Nick Hammond and master of wine John Hoskins.

"Cambridgeshire Life is targeted at people with a passion for the place in which they live," said Carole, "and will carry authoritative features on Cambridgeshire's towns and villages, its city life, on people with stories to tell, on homes and gardens and its society life." There will also be features on tourist attractions around the county, fine food and wine, antiques and wildlife."

Archant Life's eastern regional director Hayley Beach explains that the decision to launch into Cambridgeshire with a preview issue was one that was thought through very carefully.

"Cambridgeshire, and more so Cambridge itself, has various publications," she said. "We decided to put the preview issue into the market so we could monitor the reception of a new county magazine and also find out what the people of Cambridgeshire wanted from both a reader and advertising point of view.

"A reader questionnaire was inserted and the response to this was excellent and has helped immensely with the development of the October issue. Across the county, Cambridgeshire Life has been a great success and the October launch issue is eagerly awaited."
