Careers: A Day in the Life

Jessica Morgan - Digital Assistant

Why do you like working for Archant?

I enjoy working for Archant as it has given me a head start to my career and I will always have the opportunity to build on my knowledge and learn more skills.

Archant has also allowed me to continue with my education whilst working, which means I will be able to gain relevant work experience which many people my age struggle to find. I like working for Archant production because there is never a dull moment so I always feel there is a sense of community and if I needed help then a member of the team is always be happy to help.

What is the most interesting part about your job?

I am an apprentice, so the most interesting part of my job role is the ability to learn new skills and software in the workplace and then utilise this knowledge in my diploma which I am studying.

What are the challenges?

The digital design team in which I work is a fast paced environment, so I always have to be ready to learn something new and use my initiative to think quickly ensuring that any deadlines are met. I have to work accurately and efficiently to provide a good level of customer service whilst picking up new ideas and processes along the way, especially during the busier periods in the month.

The main challenge for me at the end of my Apprenticeship is to have gained the valuable skills in the creative industry to secure a permanent job, hopefully within Archant and to have a progressive career.

What is it about the media industry that made you want to be in this role?

I like the fact that even though I am an apprentice there is always something different to be getting on with, whether it is speaking on the phone, uploading digital adverts to the websites, newsletter design, or the creation of content for Archant Lifestyle Apps such as Discover Yorkshire or Wedding Link.

Give us an interesting fact about yourself?

When I was 6, Acle Primary School competed in a competition run by Archant through the EDP and my school ended up winning. As a result myself and a select group of people were chosen to fly to Lapland to meet Father Christmas. 12 years later I am now pleased to be working as an apprentice for Archant.
